On the evening of October 9, 2016, a large gathering at a residence on Foxhill Drive in Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina, turned deadly. Amid the crowd of over 100 people, 23-year-old Deasia Washington—a beloved mother of two young sons, a daughter, granddaughter, sister, and friend—was shot and killed. Found lifeless on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound, her death marked the beginning of a mystery that remains unsolved nearly nine years later, as of March 15, 2025. Despite the efforts of the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office and a $2,000 reward for information, the case lingers in the shadows, a haunting reminder of a life cut short and a community’s silence.
